Let's watch Andrew Miller strike out five of the six batters he faced in Game 1 of the ALCS
Here's the thing about
The Red Sox found this out the hard way during the ALDS when Miller threw four shutout innings over the span of two games and struck out seven of the 16 batters he faced. It was a marvelous performance and yet, somehow, he managed to perform impossibly better against the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS.
Miller entered the game with one out in the seventh and Cleveland hanging on to a 2-0 lead. He finished out the seventh and then returned to close out the eighth. In doing so, he faced six batters and struck out all but one of them. What's more, all five strikeouts were recorded on Miller's signature slider. Hitters know it's coming, but are nonetheless helpless when it arrives.
Remember that even the worst hitter in Major League Baseball is still among the greatest hitters in the world and then go ahead and watch Miller make five of the greatest hitters in the world look absolutely silly:
Miller has now pitched 14 postseason innings in his career and the next run he allows will be his first. His full postseason pitching line is positively bonkers: 14 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 22 K.
Cleveland and Toronto will face off again Saturday afternoon for Game 2 of the ALCS. Tune in at 4 p.m. ET on TBS or Sportsnet (in Canada) to see what Andrew Miller does next.
