Watch this Brewers Minor Leaguer propose to his girlfriend after she threw out the first pitch
A ballpark proposal is always an extremely iffy proposition. After all, so much can go wrong -- what if they say no? What if you lose the ring while you're on the scoreboard? And worst of all, what if you have a giant mustard stain on your shirt?
But what if you're not just a spectator, but the player doing the proposing? That's what the Carolina Mudcats' Weston Wilson went through when he proposed to his girlfriend Madison Hauck before Saturday's 1-0 loss against the Frederick Keys.
The Brewers Minor Leaguer squatted behind home plate to catch Hauck's first pitch, as if there was nothing strange about it. But when he got up to deliver the ball to her, he dropped to his knee. You can check out the entire proposal below:
Wilson told MiLB.com's Michael Peng after the game about all the work that went into the proposal. "I basically came up with this idea three weeks ago with our manager, Joe Ayrault," Wilson said. "But I had to keep it a secret from her. I figured if I just told her about the first pitch thing, she was probably going to catch up to it, so I had to throw her off with a couple of things we planned in the future."
Somehow, Wilson regained his focus enough to play in the game afterward. Unfortunately, the first baseman went 0-for-2, though he did reach base after being hit by a pitch. Though the 0-fer snapped a seven-game hitting streak, I don't think he'll mind too much, all things considered.
