Outfielder Aaron Altherr hit 90.5 mph in a solid cameo on the mound for the Phillies

Aaron Altherr has shown off a strong arm in the outfield throughout his six years in the Majors with the Phillies. Don't believe us? Check out this throw to nail Chris Iannetta at the plate:

Not bad, right? It's hard not to wonder what Altherr's arm could be like on the pitcher's mound.

The Phillies found the answer to that question during Wednesday night's blowout loss to the Nationals, when they asked Altherr to throw the last inning -- his first career pitching appearance. And wouldn't you know it? Altherr turned in a perfectly fine performance.

Altherr's fastball hit as high 90.5 mph while averaging 88.8 mph and mixing in some sliders. He even notched a pair of strikeouts along the way, including a whiff of former All-Star Brian Dozier.

You bet that Altherr kept that baseball.

If a late-40s Jamie Moyer could be a reputable Phillie throwing as slow as he did back in the day, we bet that with a little more training, the much younger Altherr could turn into a secret weapon, too.

Just something to keep in mind, Gabe Kapler. Just something to keep in mind.
