Here's your calendar to keep track of the best games to watch down the September stretch

(Joe Mahoney)

September is under way, and the Postseason looms large, as over a dozen teams remain in contention for the 10 spots in the October bracket. In addition to the traditionally wild Wild Card race, multiple division titles are also up for grabs as the regular season winds down, which means every game involving a contending team can have serious implications for the postseason picture.
To help you feel properly prepared for the stretch run, here's a look at the most important series remaining on the regular season schedule, as well as some exciting alternatives. With this, you'll be sure to be watching the key game every night (click to enlarge):
Sunday, Sept. 9
Game to watch: Braves at D-backs

These two teams have been hanging out at or near the top of their respective division standings, which few expected heading into the 2018 season. But on the backs of their first basemen/NL MVP candidates -- Freddie Freeman and Paul Goldschmidt -- these two teams have far surpassed most preseason projections and find themselves in great position to make a deep run in October.

Friday, Sept. 14
Game to watch: Athletics at Rays

The A's have undoubtedly been the surprise team of 2018, with an absolutely scorching second half led by veteran starting pitching, a lights-out bullpen and sudden superstar Matt Chapman. The Rays, meanwhile, remain well over .500 and within shouting distance of Oakland for the second Wild Card spot -- with a roster that looks almost entirely different than it did a year ago. No Evan Longoria? No Alex Colomé? No Chris Archer? No problem. Tampa Bay has gone 20-10 since trading Archer, and are looking to out-Cinderella the A's down the stretch. This series could help them make up the ground.

Tuesday, Sept. 18
Game to watch: Rockies at Dodgers

Are the Rockies really going to pull this off? After joining their fellow NL West counterparts, the D-backs, in the NL Wild Card game in 2017, Colorado is looking to lock up a more comfortable postseason spot this year as the Dodgers have fluctuated all season long. The Dodgers will always win any star power comparison, but the Rockies' own superstar Nolan Arenado has continued to do MVP-type things, and second-year southpaw Kyle Freeland is having one of the better seasons for a Rockies starting pitcher ever

Saturday, Sept. 22
Game to watch: Red Sox at Indians

While this may serve as a preview for a potential postseason matchup, it will also be the final chance for the leading AL MVP candidates to make their case against their toughest competition. Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor will all share the field for the weekend, each with the opportunity to showcase what makes them MVP-worthy. It is nearly impossible to decide between these four elite talents, but for three games, we'll be able to contrast them up close one last time.

Monday, Sept. 24
Game to watch: Brewers at Cardinals

These two NL Central clubs have been jockeying for position for much of the second half, with both teams featuring NL MVP candidates with two of the sweetest left-handed swings in the game in Christian Yelich and Matt Carpenter. Will this end up being be a preview of this year's NL Wild Card Game, or will one of these two squads catch the Cubs for the division crown? The answer to that question may start to crystallize by the time this series rolls around, but regardless, this matchup promises to be electric as the postseason nears.

Sunday, Sept. 30
Game to watch: Yankees at Red Sox

What better way to end the regular season than with a healthy dose of the best rivalry in baseball? Yes, the Red Sox currently maintain a healthy lead over the Yankees for the AL East division lead. But if the current standings hold, and New York wins the AL Wild Card Game, we could be seeing a Yankees/Red Sox showdown in the Division Series -- the first time these rivals would meet in October since the legendary 2004 ALCS.
