Jose Bautista kept the Dominican Republic alive with a laser beam to home plate
So, when Colombia put the winning run on third base with just one out in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday, the Dominicans didn't panic. They'd been here before. And, when you have literally dozens of All-Star appearances in your starting lineup, there's a good chance someone will come up big. In this case, though, it wasn't a dinger -- it was an unbelievable throw from Jose Bautista:
As you might imagine, the only thing more awe-inspiring than Bautista's cannon is the Spanish-language call of Bautista's cannon:
Clearly, he was inspired by playing for his country:
Jose Bautista's throw to the plate was clocked at 88.4 MPH... He only had 2 harder throw all last season. Man what a play...- Daren Willman (@darenw) March 12, 2017
After Bautista saved the game, his teammates made sure it wouldn't go to waste. The DR put up a seven-spot in the top of the 11th, and clinched Pool C with a 10-3 win.
