Mariners prospect Josh Stowers had an unexpected encounter with amateur wrestling on a road trip

The journey to the big leagues can take players to some strange places. In the case of Mariners No. 7 prospect and 2018 second-round pick Josh Stowers, that journey began with the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League. In a recent road trip to Boise, Stowers realized his team was sharing a hotel with another sport: amateur wrestling.

The baseball world did its best to stay awake as the Dodgers and Phillies battled it out past midnight for 16 innings. Everyone was watching, including Indians Minor Leaguer Ernie Clement:

The Pirates had an exciting 11-game winning streak, and right-hander Trevor Williams was a big part of that, throwing a rain-shortened shutout against Cleveland for win No. 10. His teammate Steven Brault loved what he saw:

Jesus Luzardo is showing a new pitch tonight that his teammates say he calls the “turkey sub.”

It’s basically a 62-64 mph eephus and he’s gotten two pop outs on it tonight. Used it right after 95 mph fastballs both times pretty effectively.
