This Max Scherzer pitch magically ended up in the umpire's shirt

Max Scherzer can put pitches pretty much anywhere -- he's proved that very well over the years.
But during Thursday's Orioles-Nationals game, even Max must've been surprised when a bouncing ball in the dirt wound up in the home-plate umpire's shirt. I mean, look at this thing. Now you see it, now you don't.

We've seen balls weirdly get stuck on a catcher's chest protector before and this is probably just as bizarre. What are the odds that a pitched ball can hit off the ground, bounce off the catcher and somehow sneak into the tiny area under an ump's mask down into his shirt?
In my expert C+-in-8th-grade-math opinion, I'd have to say the odds are low.
