From a high-and-tight pitch to retreating to first in fear of Yasiel Puig's arm, Melky Cabrera had a wild at-bat
In the seventh inning of the Pirates' 2-0 win over the Reds on Thursday night, Melky Cabrera had a pretty eventful trip to the plate. In the box score, it was only a single, but watching it unfold, it was so much more.
After taking a pitch from David Hernandez up and in, Cabrera appeared just a bit "shook" by the velocity. He recovered, and laced a single into the gap in right-center. As you'll see in the clip atop this post, Cabrera thought about stretching it into a double, quickly realized Yasiel Puig and his formidable throwing arm was out there gathering the ball and scampered back to first base safely.
A lot happened to Cabrera in those couple minutes, much more than the box score might imply ...
