Ryan Buchter made back-to-back plays that almost didn't happen

The A's put on yet another comeback show to beat the Astros, 6-4, on Thursday. Their 4-0 deficit earlier in the game became a distant memory as they tied the defending World Series champions in the eighth inning -- an inning they've dominated this season. And not just with their offense, but especially on Thursday, with their defense.
In the bottom of the inning, Ryan Buchter took the mound to replace Yusmeiro Petit. On a 1-0 pitch, Yuli Gurriel hit a grounder up the middle that bounced off of Buchter. Buchter appeared to lose control over the ball and it rolled toward first base. But it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He scooped it up with his glove and threw it to Matt Olson for the first out of the inning:

Then there was an injury delay, but did Buchter need help from the trainers? Nope:

When former Athletic Josh Reddick stepped up to the plate, he too, was the victim of Buchter's defensive skills. The Astros outfielder laid down a soft bunt. Buchter attempted to backhand the ball, but it bounced off of his glove. Still, he followed through with it and yep, got the out:

Don't give up. Don't ever give up. Also, don't hit anything toward Buchter.
A's manager Bob Melvin was rather impressed by what he saw as well.
"He used his body on a couple," Melvin told MLB.com's Jane Lee. "Certainly, the glove flip was big, but that's what happens when you have a Gold Glove-caliber first baseman over there, too."
