Remembering that time Kerry Wood struck out 20
Nineteen new names have been added to the Hall of Fame ballot this year. To celebrate, we took a closer look at some of the most memorable moments from the careers of our favorite newcomers.
For an afternoon, Kerry Wood was the greatest pitcher that ever lived. On May 6, 1998, a 20-year old Wood toed the rubber to make what was just his fifth career Major League start. Over the next two hours and nineteen minutes, Wood crafted the single most dominant pitching outing ever, striking out 20 Astros over nine one-hit innings.
While Wood's career was unfortunately shortened by injuries, his performance against the Astros on that May afternoon in Chicago deserves to be remembered forever.
Check the video at the top of the page to see all 20 of Wood's strikeouts from that game.
