This college team revolutionized batting practice by replacing the pitcher with another hitter

Innovation occurs when someone questions a practice or belief that has never been questioned before. Take batting practice for example. In its traditional form, a coach lobs pitches toward the plate and the player hits them.
But what if the coach hit the ball toward the plate instead of throwing it? It may sound like an absurd question -- most questions are when asked for the first time -- but it is exactly what the Stony Brook baseball program asked.

It is yet to be seen what value this new tweak adds to batting practice, but it figures to increase the number of hits per batting practice session by approximately a factor of two.
