AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve. AmeriCorps is supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations and other donors engaging adults in public service work with a goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.”
About the Junior Giants AmeriCorps Ambassador Role
AmeriCorps members partner with the Giants Community Fund to serve as liaisons between the Fund’s office in San Francisco and Junior Giants leagues in underserved regions throughout Northern California and Central California.
AmeriCorps Associates/Ambassadors collaborate directly with their respective league organizers to ensure a high-quality program is being delivered to the community, and to support the day-to-day operations, including the implementation of the Character Development, Health, Education and Strike Out Bullying programs. Towards the end of the season, Associates/Ambassadors serve as research assistants to collect data from parents, coaches, and participants.
