How do I become and Junior Giants AmeriCorps Associate or Ambassador?

AmeriCorps Associates and Ambassadors are selected based on an application and interview process. Job descriptions and applications will be posted here in November.

Is this a paid position?

Yes, you will receive a bi-weekly living allowance while you are in service.

What is the Segal Education Award?

The Segal Education Award is an end of service benefit for AmeriCorps members that can be used to repay student loans or on future educational expenses. It is valued at about $2,360.00 for Associates and $1,311.11 for Ambassadors. In addition, federal student loans may be deferred during the term of service.

When do I receive the living allowance and Segal Education Award?

The AmeriCorps living allowance is distributed every two weeks. The Segal Education Award is given to the AmeriCorps member after he/she has successfully completed his/her service term.

How long will I serve?

Associates serve 675 hours from early March to the end of August. Ambassadors serve 300 hours from mid-May to mid-August.

Can I have another job while serving as an AmeriCorps member?

Junior Giants AmeriCorps Ambassadors and Associates are able to hold another job during their term of service. Outside commitments must not interfere with the obligations of term of service and are generally limited to part-time employment.
