COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD

The Community Spirit Award is given to one volunteer annually who exemplifies the commitment to community service and "can-do" spirit of Giants Community Fund Board Member Emerita Isabelle Lemon.

Isabelle, who passed away in spring 2026, was a powerhouse in the Bay Area for decades, leading promotions and marketing for KNBR while always keeping the community at the center of her efforts. In that spirit, the Fund wishes to encourage and reward individuals who step up to create positive change in the communities in which they live and work.

The award recipient will be honored and presented with a $2,500 grant for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to which they are committed as a volunteer.

The 2026 application period has concluded and will reopen next August.

Congratulations to our 2026 Community Spirit Award Recipient: Jessica Carey of Girls on the Run Bay Area

Founded in 2002, Girls on the Run Bay Area has served more than 30,000 girls through programs that build confidence and encourage healthy movement. Its noncompetitive after-school curriculum helps participants develop lifelong skills while preparing together for a celebratory 5K.

Jessica Carey has been a devoted volunteer coach for more than 13 years, contributing approximately 20 hours each month and positively impacting at least 200 girls. With humor and empathy, Jessica creates a joyful environment where participants develop the confidence to work through challenges and pursue goals on their own terms. Her mentorship extends far beyond the finish line. She maintains meaningful relationships with former participants as they grow into young adults, with some returning as Junior Coaches or pursuing service projects of their own.

Jessica’s dedication embodies the true spirit of community. By showing girls that sports can foster confidence and connection without the pressure of competition, she helps them build skills that continue to shape their lives long after the season ends.
