COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD

The Community Spirit Award will be given to one volunteer each year who exemplifies the commitment to community service and "can-do" spirit of Giants Community Fund Board Member Emeritus, Isabelle Lemon. The Fund wishes to encourage and reward others for stepping up to create positive change in the communities in which they live and work. The award winner will be honored and presented with a $2500 grant for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to which they are committed as a volunteer.

The application for the 2021 Community Spirit Award is closed. Please check back in the Summer of 2022 to apply next year.

Congratulations to Sarup Singh Jhajj from Sahaita as the winner of the 2021 Community Spirit Award.

Sahaita is a nonprofit organization that provides resources that are readily available to underprivileged members of society in California, Canada & India. Sahaita provides scholarships to students of low-income families so they could pursue higher education without the burden of debt. Sahaita organizes clean-up efforts in which hundreds of volunteers donate hours of their time to pick up litter in our cities. To aid in COVID relief efforts, Sahaita continues to provide PPE care packages to the homeless, medical staff, and rideshare and truck drivers.

With 16 years of experience at Sahaita, Sarup encourages others to take action and make a difference for the better in their own communities. Sarup regularly drives out to Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco and San Jose's Salvation Army to drop off food for the homeless. Other times he is at Sahaita's COVID relief stands organizing vaccine clinics or providing PPE equipment for medical workers, underprivileged families, and rideshare drivers. He spends hours at home organizing these COVID care packages which include masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves. We are proud to be able to recognize her volunteer efforts through this award.
