Strike Out Violence Day
The 20th anniversary of Strike Out Violence Day took place on Sunday, September 16. During a special pre-game ceremony, the Giants, Giants Community Fund and Futures Without Violence came together in a pre-game ceremony to remind fans about the importance of working together to stop violence in our communities and homes. The 2018 Violence Prevention Grantees and Junior Giants Strike Out Bullying contest winners were also honored on the field during the game. La Casa de las Madres benefited from the charitable half of the 50/50 proceeds and they will receive $18,327.
Strike Out Violence Day also includes the annual Jerseys Off Our Giants raffle to benefit La Casa de las Madres. More than 100 volunteers sell $2 raffle tickets throughout the ballpark for the chance to win an autographed Giants jersey. Since 2002, over has been raised to benefit La Casa de las Madres, which offers support services for battered women and their children.
Junior Giants Strike Out Violence Programs
The Giants Community Fund created the following programs to address violence prevention needs in the Junior Giants communities. These programs provide a forum for participants to discuss methods of preventing violence in their neighborhoods.
Junior Giants Speakers Program
In an effort to address violence in our communities, the Giants Community Fund established the Junior Giants Violence Prevention Speaker's Program. Youth advocate and comedian Michael Pritchard and representatives from Soul Shoppe annually visit Junior Giants leagues to speak with kids, coaches and parents about respect, gang prevention and anti-bullying messages.
Strike Out Bullying Contest
Junior Giants Strike Out Bullying Contest is an opportunity for kids to artistically express what their community would look like if it was violence free. Kids can submit a poem, song, or piece of art that communicates this message. The contest winners are recognized during the Strike Out Violence day pre game ceremony.
