ANAHEIM -- Indians manager Terry Francona provided updates on a few injured players prior to Tuesday’s game against the Angels at Angel Stadium.

• Outfielder Tyler Naquin was looked at by doctors on Tuesday in Houston, where he will ultimately have surgery on the torn ACL in his right knee. The date of the procedure has not been determined, as there is still some swelling in the knee that needs to go down first.

“They’ll put [a recovery timetable] out after they go through the surgery,” said Francona. “It seems like they can give you some general parameters, but when they go inside and look, I don’t think you can see everything on the MRI.”

• Third baseman Jose Ramirez has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 25 with a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist. Hamate fractures have a wide range of recovery timelines, and Francona wouldn’t rule out Ramirez returning in 2019, but noted that there’s not much Ramirez can do to speed the process along.

“I mean, he’s trying, but I don’t know how you make bone heal faster by trying,” said Francona. “Every day, he’s in early. … But it’s gotta heal. If there’s one thing we have going for us, he’s a pretty tough kid, which we know.”

In Ramirez’s absence, Yu Chang has handled the bulk of the third-base duties.

• Right-hander Corey Kluber is still not working out on land since experiencing a setback with his oblique last month. Kluber, who hasn’t pitched in a game since fracturing his right ulna (forearm) on May 1, continues to be limited to water-based exercises.
