Desus and Mero are the ultimate Yankees hype men

Desus Nice and The Kid Mero may be national sensations with a chart topping podcast and a Showtime show, but they still very much lean into their identity as New Yorkers and die-hard Yankees fans. So, when they hung out around Yankee Stadium before Game 1 of the ALDS against the Twins, you knew which team they'd be pulling for.

Obviously, then, they hung out with some Yankees. They even helped pump up Aaron Judge for the game by taking his mind off the fact that a certain cross-town rookie stole his home run record a week prior.

But, that wasn't even the highlight of their trip to the Bronx. That came outside the ballpark, when they took to the streets to mingle with fans like Al from the Bronx and Tim.

Both identify as lifelong Yankees fans. And, to prove it, Mero went with a very under-the-radar pick for his favorite Yankee of all time, though his slandering of Derek Jeter may be a bridge too far for some.

Mariano Duncan wasn't even a Yankee for two seasons, but came away with a World Series ring in 1996 in his only full season with the team. The second baseman hit .340 that year and became something of a hero for the squad.

Unsurprisingly, both New York City natives picked the Yankees to beat the Twins in the ALDS, and both their predictions look fairly good with the Yankees now holding a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Who knows? Before long they might be ditching their talk show and comedy careers to talk baseball. They certainly seem cut out for it.
