Here's the 'Biscuit Lid,' the delicious winner of the Montgomery Biscuits' Design a Hat contest

Before the New Orleans Baby Cakes and before the Savannah Bananas, there were the Montgomery Biscuits. The Rays' Double-A affiliate was a pioneer in the offbeat make-you-hungry field of baseball mascots, and now, Montgomery has upped the game once more. The team held a Design A Hat contest this month and lo, the Biscuit Lid:

On Tuesday, the Biscuits revealed that artist Jesse Alkire's design won the fan vote on social media, besting challengers that were definitely worthy, but lacking a certain flaky crust:

According to Alkire, the Biscuit Lid is "baseball's first hat design fresh baked to look like a fluffy biscuit." Alas, the team will probably not wear their new caps on the field, though fans can buy them beginning in Spring 2017.
But if you're wondering where inspiration for the Biscuit Lid may have come from, just check out this former Ray modeling a prototype:
