Learn MoreOn the morning of September 7, Pirates Charities proudly hosted a Fantasy Camp clinic for 50 Miracle League athletes at the Miracle League of Southwestern PA. Miracle League athletes of all ages and skill levels came together alongside Pirates front office, players and mascots to take part in the clinic. Each Miracle League athlete received a custom Pirates jersey with their name on the back, a Pirates hat and other Pirates goodies prior to enjoying the event, which took place on an adaptive playing surface to ensure athletes of all abilities could enjoy the event and play baseball. Each athlete was celebrated as they had their name announced during the opening ceremonies and heard a special address from Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting before taking part in four skill stations - hitting, pitching, fielding and base running, while receiving pointers from Pirates players Endy Rodriguez and Daulton Jefferies, providing a unique experience for these athletes and their families.

As a thank you for their sacrifice, Pirates players and coaches Paul Skenes, Justin Lawrence, and Manager Don Kelly, came out to provide instruction for the participants. Following the clinic, participants also enjoyed a complimentary lunch prior to the Pirates Game vs the Rangers.
On Sunday, June 15th, we were honored to host roughly 150 children who are deaf and hard of hearing with the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD) for a special on-field baseball clinic at PNC Park thanks to Clean Express Auto Wash! Participants rotated through five stations of various drills led by Pirates Training Center Staff.
On June 15th, the Pirates hosted a free PLAY BALL clinic, presented by Nike. Kids ages 5 to 14 of all skill levels, interested in getting involved in the game of baseball, participated at PNC Park
Wednesday, June 4th, the Pirates and Sheetz came together with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to pack summer snack kits for local families in need. There is typically a two-week period following the last day of school before summer food programs begin as many local kids rely on school to provide them with two meals a day. We had volunteers from both the Pirates and Sheetz come together and pack up the meal kits that will be delivered to local kids across Pittsburgh! The day wouldn’t be complete without the Pirate Parrot stopping by to join in on the fun!
Over 1,000 people gathered at PNC Park on Saturday May 24 to participate in the 4th annual Pirates Charities Family Walk, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, which benefitted Pirates Charities and AHN Mental Health programming. Pirates coaches and players Don Kelly, Matt Hague, Jordan Comadena, Tarrik Brock, Issac Mattson, Nick Solak, and Tanner Rainey joined fans to come together in support of improving our community’s mental health and raising awareness around the importance of having conversations about mental wellness. Following the two-mile walk around the best ballpark in America, fans enjoyed a carnival style party on the Highmark Riverwalk. The carnival included games, activities, and different local mental health nonprofits, which all provided participants with information on how to find helpful resources and services.
Today, the Pirates and Sheetz came together to host Special Olympics athletes for a special Sheetz Run with the Bucs. These athletes joined players Spencer Horwitz, Chase Shugart, and Justin Lawrence for a special shopping trip throughout a Sheetz in McKees Rocks to pick out their favorite snacks and go to Made-to-Order items, before sitting down to enjoy a special Q&A session together. The day wouldn't be complete without the Pirate Parrot joining the fun to hand out Sheetz and Pirates goodies to all of the athletes!
Earlier this month, Pirates front office staff, players and coaches, including Paul Skenes, Chase Shugart, Joey Wentz, and Matt Gorski, worked alongside 84 Lumber staff volunteers at the Pittsburgh Fisher House. Volunteers spent the day freshening up the patio and indoor living spaces to help guests feel more at home during their visit. Pirates players and volunteers then joined the house guests and staff for lunch, courtesy of Giant Eagle. The Pirates are proud to come together with 84 Lumber to support the Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House's mission to ease the burden of veterans and their families during their cost free stay while their loved one is receiving care at the VA Pittsburgh.
The Pirates and Pirates Charities are proud to have hosted the opening ceremonies for the 14th Be a Fan Law Enforcement Torch Run supporting Special Olympics Pennsylvania at PNC Park on Tuesday, May 13th. Nearly 250 Special Olympics athletes, local law enforcement including Chief of Pittsburgh Port Authority Police and Torch Run State Director, Matt Porter, and volunteers of Special Olympics joined Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting to celebrate the start of the three-day, 150-mile torch run from Pittsburgh to State College, PA, the site of the 2025 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games.
As a way to help raise funds for local breast cancer support organization, A Glimmer of Hope, the Pirates and Pirates Charities hosted the 14th annual Pitch for Hope women’s baseball clinic on Sunday, May 11 at PNC Park. Clinic participants rotated through stations on the field and received instruction from Pirates Manager Don Kelly and his entire coaching staff. Following the clinic, participants enjoyed a special Mother’s Day brunch at the ballpark where they spent quality time bonding and supporting those among the group who have been impacted by breast cancer. Participants also participated in a special pregame moment on the field at PNC Park ahead as part of the Pirates Breast Cancer Support game programming, before staying to enjoy the Pirates vs. Braves matchup. All proceeds from the event benefit A Glimmer of Hope and the critically important work that they do in our community to fight against breast cancer.
On February 19, Pirates Charities hosted a Miracle League Fantasy Camp for 40 athletes from the Miracle League of Manasota alongside Pirates players, coaches, and mascots. Each Miracle League athlete received a custom Pirates City Connect jersey with their name on the back, a Pirates hat and other Pirates goodies prior to enjoying the clinic-style event, which took place on an adaptive playing surface to ensure athletes of all abilities could enjoy the event. Prior to the clinic, the Miracle League of Manasota presented Chairman Bob Nutting with a bat signed by each Miracle League athlete, as a thank you for the continued support, including a recent $50,000 donation to be used to help resurface the Miracle League of Manasota playing surface. Each athlete then had their name announced during the opening ceremonies, heard a special address from Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting and enjoyed four stations – hitting, pitching, fielding and base running – led by more than 20 Pirates players and coaching staff, including David Bednar, Colin Holderman and Jared Jones, who gave them pointers and provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these athletes and their families.
This week, in partnership with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, we hosted our annual Winter Wishes Holiday Project. Our dedicated front office staff came together to sponsor 125 children and youth providing gifts including toys, clothing, bikes, video games, and more, ensuring they experience the magic of the holiday season!
The Pirates teamed up with the Penguins and Steelers to give back to the Pittsburgh community ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. For the fourth straight year, the #BurghProud Thanksgiving Dinner Distribution took place on Pittsburgh's North Shore in partnership with Giant Eagle and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The drive-thru event supported 300 families in need with a turkey, fresh produce, a Market District apple pie, $15 Giant Eagle gift card, and a special gift from each of the three teams. Sporting their black and gold, Pirates alumni Steve Blass and players from the Steelers and Penguins worked alongside the Pirate Parrot, Iceburgh, and Steely McBeam to load cars with all the supplies needed for a Thanksgiving dinner.
To kick off the season of giving, Pirates front office staff teamed up to donate over 1,000 boxes of stuffing to contribute to Light of Life Rescue Mission in support of their goal to distribute 2,100 meals to families throughout the Northside. Pirates alumni Steve Blass joined the Pirate Parrot to deliver the donation and thank Light of Life volunteers for all of their work to support those in need this holiday season.

The Pirates Charities Fields for Kids program partners with organizations operating youth baseball and/or softball programs to ensure youth athletes have safe places to play.
Since its inception in 2009, the Pirates Charities Fields for Kids Program has distributed over 500 individual grants in the greater Pittsburgh region and since 2011, nearly 50 in the Pirates Spring Training home of Bradenton, Florida.
For more than 15 years, Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting and Pirates Charities has been proud to support Miracle League programs in the greater Pittsburgh region and Manatee County, Florida by providing athletes with unique abilities the opportunity to play the sport they love. Over the years, Pirates Charities has partnered with numerous Miracle Leagues to increase accessibility for the game and allow every all-star to play.
