Hammond Stadium Safety Netting

The Minnesota Twins, in conjunction with Lee County, expanded fan safety netting within Hammond Stadium at Lee County Sports Complex in Ft. Myers, FL prior to the 2018 and 2020 Spring Training seasons. Prior to the 2021 Spring Training season, the safety netting will also be extended down the third base line.

"Over the years, Hammond Stadium has earned a reputation as one of the most intimate spring training venues in all of baseball," Twins President & CEO Dave St Peter said. "With that reality in mind, we feel extending the ballpark's netting is in the best interest of our fans. In addition to ensuring fan safety, we are equally committed to installing the best available netting product aimed at minimizing obstructed views for our fans."

Prior to the start of the 2021 Spring Training season, the Twins and Lee County will again extend the existing protective netting down the third base line. The net extension will now protect sections 114 & 115, and all of the Bullpen Zone seating (sections 116-117). With this extension, the netting now covers sections 101 through 117 and reaches a height of 30 feet tall from end to end, covering sections 201 through 217 behind home plate. In addition, the net covers all of the Right Field Drink Rail Seats (section 132) and the Right Field Lawn seating.

The fan safety netting at Hammond Stadium is crafted using state-of-the-art technology, with thin strands and a knotless intersection to deliver a minimally obtrusive viewing experience. Additionally, the new netting is composed of a combination of green hues to allow the netting to blend with the playing field and provide greater visibility.

The Minnesota Twins and Lee County are committed to guest safety. We continue to warn fans about the dangers posed by batted balls and bats entering the stands and the need to pay attention to the action on the field during each at-bat. The Twins will continue to implement warning messages via in-ballpark signage, messaging on tickets and other team-controlled platforms.
