Padres-Guardians rained out; DH on Wednesday

May 3rd, 2022

CLEVELAND -- The battle of the best friends will have to wait an extra day.

The Guardians and Padres announced that their series opener on Tuesday was postponed due to forecasted inclement weather. It will now be made up as a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 1:10 p.m. ET.

Gates will open at noon ET and only fans with tickets to Wednesday's contest will be able to attend. Those with tickets to Tuesday’s game will be able to exchange them for one of six game options, including Wednesday’s doubleheader. Exchanges must be made by July 1 at 5 p.m. ET

Former teammates and good friends Zach Plesac and Mike Clevinger are still slated to go head to head for the Guardians and Padres, respectively, in Game 1 of the twin bill. The two have been texting about the matchup all week and Plesac wasn’t shy in expressing his excitement to have a chance to face Clevinger, especially in Clevinger's first outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery in November of 2020.

The nightcap will feature Cal Quantrill for the Guardians and MacKenzie Gore for the Padres -- the two originally scheduled hurlers for Wednesday prior to Tuesday night’s rainout.
