Guardians-Twins finale postponed; twin bill scheduled for Aug. 9

April 7th, 2024

The Minnesota Twins announced that Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians has been postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Friday, Aug. 9, at 1:10 p.m. CT/12:10 ET. The game will be played ahead of the previously scheduled 7:10 p.m. game that evening.

Both the Twins and Guardians are simply taking the opportunity to get their starting rotations extra rest and push everyone back a day, with Sunday’s scheduled starters -- Bailey Ober (in the series opener against the Dodgers at Target Field) and Triston McKenzie (vs. the White Sox in Cleveland's home opener) -- simply slated to start instead on Monday.

The Guardians will stay in line with Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee to follow, with the postponement allowing them to delay finding an immediate replacement in the rotation slot of the injured Shane Bieber. The Twins will also stay in order, and the delay in this important divisional matchup to August might also help Minnesota’s scuffling offense find some footing in the meantime.
