Plesac optioned to Triple-A to remain on track

CINCINNATI -- On Saturday, the Tribe optioned right-hander Zach Plesac to Triple-A Columbus and recalled outfielder Greg Allen. The move allows Plesac to get another start and remain on track to make his scheduled start after the All-Star break.

“We don’t need a fifth starter until after the break,” Francona said. “I explained to him yesterday that nobody wants to get sent to Triple-A, but you’re going this way [pointing up], even though you’re going down.”

Plesac posted a 14.21 ERA in his last two starts, but posted a 2.33 ERA in his first six outings. Overall, he’s 3-3 with a 4.00 ERA with 33 K's in 45 innings.

Allen is making his third stint with the club this season. He batted .274 in 45 games at Columbus and .169 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 27 games for the Tribe, which began a two-game Interleague series in Cincinnati on Saturday.

“He’s a switch-hitter and he could run, seemed like the right thing to do in a National League city,” Indians manager Terry Francona said.

Rotation set

Francona revealed the Tribe’s rotation coming out of the break:

7/12 vs. Twins: RHP Mike Clevinger
7/13 vs. Twins: RHP Trevor Bauer
7/14 vs. Twins: RHP Shane Bieber
7/15 vs. Tigers: RHP Adam Plutko
