Jim Palmer went the distance in Game 3 to help the Orioles seal their third consecutive American League pennant.

In the ALCS for the third year in a row, the Orioles once again came out victorious with a three-game sweep. The series was not quite as lopsided as the past few years, though, with Baltimore outscoring Oakland, 15-7.

The O's needed a four-run seventh to take Game 1 in Baltimore, then also scored three late runs in Game 2 to seal Mike Cuellar's complete-game win. Jim Palmer also went the distance in Game 3 for the victory.

Boog Powell and Brooks Robinson each drove in three runs for the Orioles in the series, while Reggie Jackson homered twice for the A's.

Path to the ALCS: The Orioles (101-57) won the AL East by 12 games. The A's (101-60) won the AL West by 16 games
