DETROIT -- The Twins are closer to getting a trio of players back from injury.
Byron Buxton took batting practice Wednesday at Comerica Park, and though manager Paul Molitor isn't committing to a timeframe yet for his return, the takeaways were positive.
"I think he feels pretty good," Molitor said. "I don't know if he was pain-free, but I think he's getting closer. We're just trying to debate and discuss when the right time is and at what level does it make the most sense [to bring him back]."
Buxton went on the 10-day disabled list on May 30 with a left big toe fracture. He said before Tuesday's game that he wanted to travel with the Twins to do his rehab, because it helps him stay positive and get in a good work rhythm.

Joe Mauer, who went a combined 0-for-6 Tuesday in a doubleheader with Triple-A Rochester, was scheduled to play a full game Wednesday night at first base.
"Not too concerned about results last night," Molitor said. "I think him getting in there and seeing pitches six times was probably good for him."
Mauer played another nine innings with Rochester on Wednesday, manning first base and finishing 0-for-4 at the plate with a strikeout. Molitor said the earliest Mauer could rejoin the Twins is Friday, when they're in Cleveland.
Mauer has been on the 10-day DL since May 19 with a neck strain and concussion-like symptoms.
Ervin Santana hasn't pitched in a game for the Twins this season since having surgery on his right middle finger in the offseason. Santana will throw a bullpen on Friday, his first time doing so since a setback during a start with Class A Advanced Fort Myers last month.
