KANSAS CITY -- The Royals' trio of , and is getting set for a short, but special, road trip.

The logistics came together neatly so that Wood, Hammel and Soler -- members of the 2016 World Series champion Chicago Cubs -- will be able to return to Wrigley Field on Monday night to accept their championship rings in front of the fans who celebrated the end of a 108-year title drought last fall.

With the Royals off Monday, an opportunity was provided for Wood, Hammel and Soler to make it to Wrigley, where the Cubs will play the Brewers at 7:05 CT. The Royals open a two-game home series against the Giants on Tuesday night.

"It will be nice to get it there," Wood said. "Especially since it took 108 years to get one, so that will be something special that I'll take with me. It will be fun, a good time."

Hammel is scheduled to start Tuesday's opener against San Francisco.

"Day game [Sunday], so we can fly out and get up there at a decent hour, and then the off-day," Hammel said. "They haven't told me about any of the ceremony, but I'm assuming it will be some type of presentation before the game. It will be a cool feeling, because we definitely enjoyed our time there, and the fans were a huge part of it. To do it in front of the [Wrigley] crowd would make it right."

Hammel said he has tried to avoid looking at pictures of the championship rings.

"I want to be surprised when I look at it," Hammel said. "It's supposed to be pretty immaculate. I will be very proud and excited to share that with the fans."

Royals manager Ned Yost said Monday is a built-in recovery day for Soler, who is working his way back from a left oblique strain.

"It's going to be a neat thing for them," Yost said.
