MVPreview? Judge, Goldy win weekly player awards

July 25th, 2022

A couple of leading MVP candidates -- the Yankees’ and the Cardinals’ -- came out of the All-Star break swinging red-hot bats. They have been named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet.

Judge batted .474 (9-for-19) with a 1.776 OPS in his five games last week. He belted four homers, bringing his total up to 37, and is now on pace for 62 this season. Judge did most of his damage during the team’s three-game weekend series at Baltimore, where he racked up eight hits -- five for extra bases -- and eight RBIs.

This is Judge’s fifth career Player of the Week recognition, and he follows teammate Matt Carpenter, who won the honor last week.

Goldschmidt packed four home runs, seven RBIs and an MLB-best 1.885 OPS into St. Louis’ three games in Cincinnati after the All-Star break. He posted a .462/.500/1.385 slash line during the series and continues to lead the National League in each of the triple-slash categories (.335/.417/.619).

He has four consecutive multihit games and has gone deep in four straight games as well. That homer streak runs to five, if you include his dinger in the All-Star Game.

Goldschmidt has now received Player of the Week honors twice this season and five times in his career.
