CHICAGO -- Shortstop Addison Russell's middle finger on his left hand has been nagging him for a while.
That's why Russell exited in the sixth inning Sunday, when his left hand was stepped on after he collided with third baseman Javier Baez and caught a popup in shallow left, which both players tried to snag. The Cubs beat the Twins, 11-10, at Wrigley Field.
Chicago has Monday off before hosting the Tigers for a two-game series starting on Tuesday, giving Russell extra time to recover. His status is questionable, though manager Joe Maddon didn't believe the injury was serious.
"I would think he's possibly going to be OK Tuesday, but I've got to find out," Maddon said. "It just got sore fast, got a little swollen."

Russell first hurt the finger swinging during an at-bat on June 3 against the Mets. He came out of that game and also missed the next three due to the injury.
After hitting a go-ahead grand slam in Friday's 10-6 win vs. the Twins, Russell said his finger was still bothering him a little, but "for the most part, it's tolerable."

Russell has been on an offensive tear lately -- slashing .340/.410/.547 over his last 16 games -- so the hope for the Cubs is that the aggravated finger doesn't hinder his swing, even if it continues to linger.
Said Russell after Friday's game: "Day to day, I have to make sure I do my treatment."
