SAN FRANCISCO -- Andre Ethier was rewarded for his grueling rehabilitation from a broken leg Sunday when manager Dave Roberts said Ethier will be on the roster for the National League Division Series.
Ethier joins Josh Reddick, Joc Pederson, Howie Kendrick, Yasiel Puig and Andrew Toles as confirmed outfielders for the best-of-five series that starts Friday and Saturday in Washington. Games 3 and 4 (if necessary) will be at Dodger Stadium on Oct. 10 and 11.

Ethier will be the primary left-handed pinch-hitter and give Roberts flexibility for double-switches. With Reddick and Pederson manning right and center fields, Puig starting against left-handers and left field probably split between Kendrick and Toles, Ethier's time in the field will be limited.
"Andre will be on the postseason roster," said Roberts. "His at-bat quality for me -- I told him I don't care how many hits he gets, I just want the at-bat quality I've seen over the course of a 10-year career. His leg is good. His value off the bench late in the game against a quality relief pitcher, I like it.
"It's a small sample for 'Dre on the Major League side. But to conduct the at-bat, to swing at strikes and take balls, if he can discern from that and not succumb to the pressure of the postseason, which he already has been a part of, then I'll take my chances."

Ethier suffered a spiral fracture when he fouled a pitch off his right tibia in Spring Training. After a lengthy recovery and Minor League rehab assignment, he was activated Sept. 10. In 15 games, he is only 4-for-23 (.174) with a homer and two RBIs. But he's 3-for-10 as a pinch-hitter. This will be his sixth postseason appearance totaling 35 games.
Roberts said the club still has "three or four" decisions still to be made before the roster is finalized. He hinted strongly that Charlie Culberson, the walk-off hero of last Sunday's clincher, would make it because of his infield versatility and quality at-bats against left-handed pitching.
