PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Padres have arrived at the time of Spring Training when the daily fundamental drills are becoming a little mundane.
So Padres manager Andy Green has decided to mix things up by introducing some new voices, specifically speakers, in the clubhouse each morning.

"I think it will be very impactful for the guys," Green said. "We drill fundamentals all day long, and there's a point where spring starts to drag."
The Padres have already had one speaker this week, and two more will roll through camp on Friday and Saturday.
"These guys are guys I've read and respect, who are from varied backgrounds that will appeal to a different group of guys," Green said.
The speakers include author Jon Gordon, with former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink set to visit on Friday and another former SEAL, Jason Redman, arriving Saturday.
"We're trying to reinforce what our message is throughout the season. We want the team taking ownership and responsibility for what they can control and not focus on what they can't," Green said.
Gordon, a best-selling author and keynote speaker, has written 11 books on the subject of leadership, teamwork and culture.
Willink, a SEAL officer, received a Bronze Star and Silver Star for his service in the Iraq War. Once he retired, Willink co-founded the company Echelon Front, which, among other things, offers dynamic leadership challenges.
"Their message is incredible, especially with the SEALs, and not just what they go through but the amount of teamwork it involves and the leadership they possess. They've got a strong message they can pass on to us," Padres pitcher Tyson Ross said.
"It's going to be a great learning experience for us."
Redman spent time in Afghanistan and Iraq, and he was the recipient of the Purple Star and the Bronze Star. He founded the nonprofit organization, Wounded Wear, and is the author of "The Trident: The Forging and Reforging of a Navy SEAL Officer."
The speaker series, Green said, comes at a perfect time during camp.
"We'll have these guys focus on the mental side of baseball for a while and then have them get back to the physical side of baseball for the last week, week and a half of spring," Green said.
• Non-roster infielder Adam Rosales will return to camp on Friday after spending the last two days in Cleveland with his wife, who gave birth to a boy. Rosales is in the mix to win a job on the Padres' bench. The team likes his versatility in that he can play all four infield spots and the outfield in a pinch.
