Angels right-hander Matthew Shoemaker's father, David, served as one of his travel coaches when he was growing up, but his mother, Karen, also played a crucial role in his baseball development, offering a steady stream of encouragement from the stands.
"It's just really special," Shoemaker said of Mother's Day. "It's kind of tough to say anything more than that because we could talk all day. My mom's great.

"My dad was always a travel coach of mine, but my mom was always the mom coach on the side. It's fun, she tries to pump you up, tells you to be positive all the time.
"I feel very fortunate to have great relationships with my parents."
