ANAHEIM -- Michael Trout was scratched from the Angels' lineup in their 2-1 win over the Astros on Saturday night at Angel Stadium with left hamstring tightness. He is considered day to day.
Trout had originally been scheduled to play center field and bat third for the Halos, but his hamstring flared up during pregame warmups, and he was removed from the lineup shortly before first pitch as a precautionary measure. The 25-year-old outfielder also sat out Thursday's game against the Mariners with hamstring tightness.
"It actually started three or four days ago," manager Mike Scioscia said of Trout's malady. "We gave him the day off [Thursday], and he bounced back, felt good. In pregame warmups, it tightened up a little bit. We're going to exercise every precaution, especially with a hamstring. He plays a demanding position in center and he needs to be able to move, and we don't want to put him at risk right now. We'll see how he feels tomorrow."
Scioscia said the Angels are not currently planning to have Trout undergo further medical testing on his hamstring. Trout, the reigning American League MVP, has been remarkably durable over his Major League career and appeared in 159 games for the Angels in 2016. He has never been placed on the disabled list.
Trout had been off to the best start of his career this season, capturing AL Player of the Month honors for April and batting .355 with eight home runs, 21 RBIs and five stolen bases in 30 games. He extended his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games on Friday with a ninth-inning single.
