Halos, play-by-play man Sutton part ways

SEATTLE -- The Angels parted ways with play-by-play broadcaster Daron Sutton ahead of the All-Star break, the club announced on Sunday. Sutton was informed on Saturday that he’ll no longer be part of the club’s television broadcasts on Bally Sports West for the rest of the year.

Sutton was hired before the season to fill in on days when primary play-by-play broadcaster Matt Vasgersian wasn’t available. Vasgerian will continue in his role, while the Angels will look to hire a replacement for Sutton.

Sutton, the son of late Hall of Famer Don Sutton, released a statement on Sunday.

"This was definitely more of a trial or test than I understood when we started," Sutton said. "I enjoyed every second of this opportunity and will cherish the memories always. I am proud of every moment of television the Bally Sports team produced, that I was a part of, without incident, and to the joy and satisfaction of so many.

“I am grateful to Bally Sports for this opportunity and our relationship remains strong and productive to this very moment. I’m looking forward to working with them again in the future. It was great to reconnect with Angels fans. They’re the best, the very best!"
