ANAHEIM -- There were reminders all over Angel Stadium that Sunday was a time to remember the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
The Anaheim Fire & Rescue unfurled a large American flag on the infield after marching from first to second base before the series finale between the Angels and Rangers, won by Los Angeles, 3-2. There was a moment of silence and the presence of 100 members of the United States armed services along the infield dirt.
The video scoreboards in left and right field displayed a special Major League Baseball logo, complete with a red, white and blue ribbon and the phrase: "We Shall Not Forget." Special lineup cards and base jewels were used, and the caps of both teams had an American flag stitched on one side.

It was all a part of a league-wide remembrance of 9/11, and gave everyone at the ballpark a venue to reflect on the day's meaning.

Rangers outfielder Ian Desmond recalled being in English class his sophomore year at Sarasota High School in Sarasota, Fla., when his teacher told the class what happened on that tragic day.
"It's amazing how vivid that memory is even today," Desmond said. "My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were affected."

Fans entering the ballpark received Angels hats with an American flag printed on the front panels.

Army National Guard Aviation Branch Major and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot Matt Jackson threw out the honorary first pitch. Jackson is back from his second tour of duty.
