Petit starts Angels' 4-hit shutout of Brewers

TEMPE, Ariz. -- pitched two innings and produced an RBI single to help lead the Angels to a 2-0 win over the Brewers on Saturday afternoon at Tempe Diablo Stadium in the Cactus League opener for both teams.

"We're going to extend him a little bit," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "That was the point of going back out there today if he had a quick inning. He was very efficient today, and his stuff was good in both innings."
Petit, who is fighting for a spot in the Angels' rotation or bullpen after signing a Minor League deal with the club, allowed one hit and struck out two in the 19-pitch outing. The 32-year-old veteran is slated to represent Venezuela in the Classic, alongside countrymen Alvarez and Guerra.
"I felt good today," Petit said. "Everything was working good. I appreciate that the team gave me the ball, especially for this game."
