Wednesday's Top 10 Arizona Fall League performers

October 3rd, 2019

Here are the 10 performers from Wednesday, Oct. 2 in the Arizona Fall League.

Nolan Jones, 3B, Indians No. 1
For the second straight day, Jones took a jog around the basepaths after clobbering a ball over the fence. His blast against Surprise was his second of the AFL, as he recorded his second multihit contest with the Solar Sox. After a 1-for-14 start over his first three games, the 21-year-old has rebounded with an extra-base hit in each of his last three appearances and a hit in six of his last seven games.

Tanner Houck, RHP, Red Sox No. 5
Houck got the start for the Javelinas and did not disappoint, starting off the combined shutout by spinning four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. The Red Sox’s No. 5 prospect had allowed six runs, four earned, over his first two Fall League appearances. The club’s first-round Draft pick in 2017 spent this season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels and split his time between starting and coming out of the bullpen. Overall, he finished with a 4.01 ERA in 107 2/3 innings pitched with 107 strikeouts. More»

Jo Adell, OF, Angels No. 1
Adell had his immense potential on display during Mesa’s defeat to Surprise, clubbing his second home run of the AFL while coming just a triple shy of the cycle. His solo shot in the first-inning was a resounding blast well beyond the left-field fence, with his opposite-field double in the second nearly clearing the wall in right-center field. In addition to drawing a walk in the third, Adell laced a single to left in the fifth. His performance brought his Fall League average up to .300 over his first 11 games, with his OPS at .895.

Owen Miller, SS/2B, Padres No. 10
Miller hit a fourth-inning solo home run to double Peoria’s lead and prove to be half of the Javelinas’ offense Wednesday. It was his only hit in four at-bats and his first dinger of the Fall League season. The Padres’ No. 10 prospect had a solid season for Double-A Amarillo, batting .290 with 43 extra-base hits in 130 games.

Brian Serven, C, Rockies
The Scottsdale offense was paced by Serven out of the nine-hole on Wednesday. The 24-year-old went 1-for-3 and drove in two for the squad that ended up on top 4-2.

Elehuris Montero, 3B, Cardinals No. 4
Montero paced Glendale’s offense on Wednesday, with two of the team’s five total hits in the matchup against the Javelinas, also adding the only extra-base hit for the Desert Dogs with his first triple of the fall season. St. Louis’ No. 4 prospect went 2-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout while seeing action at third base.

Connor Seabold, RHP, Phillies No. 30
Seabold got the start for the Scorpions and finished five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Seabold is off to a strong start in the AFL and has racked up 18 strikeouts over 12 innings. He's also given up just one earned run and held opponents to a .128 batting average.

Matt Whatley, C, Texas Rangers
Whatley, Surprise’s No. 9 batter, proved to be the strongest hitter of the night for the Saguaros, playing a role in four of the eight runs the team scored. A third-round Draft pick in 2017, Whatley reached base in all four plate appearances, including two hits, one a two-run knock in the four-run third inning. He also scored twice, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. More»
