CHICAGO -- Reliever Gavin Floyd exited with tightness in his throwing shoulder in the sixth inning of the Blue Jays' 10-8 win against the White Sox on Saturday at U.S. Cellular Field.
The right-hander took over for starter R.A. Dickey with one out in the sixth, after Todd Frazier reached on an error and Alex Avila hit a double. After allowing an RBI single to Brett Lawrie, Floyd got catcher Dioner Navarro to fly out, but soon had the Blue Jays' medical staff come out to check on him. He left the game shortly after.
"I just felt uncomfortable out there," said Floyd, who's had Tommy John surgery and two surgeries for fractures in his elbow. "I tossed a ball and it felt like something I needed to do and take myself out. We'll get images [Sunday] and find out what's going on."
It was the 28th appearance this season for Floyd, who used to be a starter for the White Sox. He's 2-4 with a 4.06 ERA.
The Blue Jays are already shorthanded in terms of veteran relievers with left-handers Brett Cecil and Franklin Morales on Minor League rehab stints while working their way back from injuries.
Asked if Floyd would need to be put on the 15-day disabled list, manager John Gibbons indicated that might be an option they exercise because of the current situation with the bullpen.
"He felt some tightness in his right shoulder, so we took him out and he'll get some more tests," Gibbons said. "I don't think we can afford to wait very long, that's for sure. It could be something."
