Oct. 3: Red Sox 7, Nationals 5 -- Devers goes deep twice
Rafael Devers went yard not once, but twice in the season finale, sending his team to their first Wild Card Game since the 10-team playoff format began (2012). His go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning was his 38th of the season. The 447-foot blast marks the second most home runs by a Red Sox player before turning 25 -- behind Jim Rice's 39 homers in 1977 (age 24).

Oct. 2: Red Sox 5, Nationals 2 -- Houck's perfect five
Tanner Houck was perfect on Saturday. In his first start since Sept. 15, the right-handed rookie tossed five perfect innings. Houck is the first starter in Sox franchise history with five-plus perfect innings since Cy Young's perfect game in 1904.

Oct. 1: Red Sox 4, Nationals 2 -- Barnes makes Sox history
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Matt Barnes recorded two quick outs for the Red Sox. It marked the 60th appearance this season by the reliever and his 385th career appearance. Barnes is the first pitcher in Sox history to appear in 60-plus games in five different seasons. The righty reliever also moved into fifth place in Red Sox history for most appearances -- surpassing Derek Lowe (384).

Sept. 30: Orioles 6, Red Sox 2 -- Kiké's leadoff pop
Kiké Hernández's homer on the first pitch of Thursday's game was the 12th leadoff homer of his career, and half of them have come this season. Of the seven leadoff homers the Red Sox have hit this season, this was the first on the road. Hernández is tied with Mookie Betts (2016) for the most leadoff homers in a season by a Red Sox player. Nomar Garciaparra has the record with seven in 1997.

Sept. 29: Red Sox 6, Orioles 0 -- Martinez feasts on O's pitching
There might not be a team J.D. Martinez loves hitting against more than the Orioles. After his latest long ball, Martinez has eight homers against Baltimore this season, five more than he has against any other team. His 32 career homers against the O's also represent his high against any team.

Sept. 28: Orioles 4, Red Sox 2 -- Rare loss for Sale in Baltimore
It was somewhat stunning that Red Sox ace Chris Sale could not hold the 2-0 lead he had in the sixth inning of the opener, partly due to his career track record at Camden Yards -- one of his favorite places to pitch. Entering this start, Sale's teams had won his last eight starts in Baltimore, with the lefty going 7-0 with a 1.38 ERA.

Sept. 26: Yankees 6, Red Sox 3 -- Iggy on fire
It will be interesting to see how manager Alex Cora divides the playing time at second base the final week of the season. José Iglesias isn't eligible to play in the postseason because he wasn't in the Red Sox organization as of Sept. 1, but he is on fire. Iglesias came off the bench on Sunday and extended his season-long hitting streak to 12 games, during which he is hitting .405 (15-for-37, four doubles, one triple, one homer).

Sept. 25: Yankees 5, Red Sox 3 -- Boston stepping up on 'D'
While defense has been a huge problem for the Red Sox for much of the season, they have been much better in that crucial facet of late. Including Saturday, Boston has played seven consecutive errorless games. The team's longest streak of contests without an error this year was eight games from July 22-29.

Sept. 24: Yankees 8, Red Sox 3 -- Kiké getting hot again
In what is a good sign for the Red Sox's offense, leadoff man Kiké Hernández is getting hot again. The veteran reached base four times in five plate appearances during the series opener. In his current five-game hitting streak, he is 8-for-19 with eight runs, three doubles, a homer, four RBIs and four walks. This strong run has come directly on the heels of an 0-for-14 slump.

Sept. 22: Red Sox 12, Mets 5 -- Schwarber wears out Mets
The Mets are surely happy they won’t have to pitch to Kyle Schwarber again this season. The left-handed masher has torched New York, ripping nine homers against them this year. Wednesday's two-homer barrage was Schwarber’s fourth multihomer game against the Mets this season. He is the eighth player with nine-plus homers against the Mets in a single season; Josh Donaldson was the most recent to do it in 2019. Schwarber is also just the fifth player to have as many as four multihomer games against one opponent in a season.

Sept. 21: Red Sox 6, Mets 3 -- Kiké adds to Sox's OF assists
Kiké Hernández unleashed a cannon to home plate in the top of the fourth to throw out Pete Alonso and prevent the Mets from taking a 3-0 lead. It was Hernández's seventh assist this season from center, and the 41st for Boston's outfield, which leads the Majors. This is the most assists the Red Sox have had in the outfield since 1987, when they had 47.

Sept. 19: Red Sox 8, Orioles 6 -- Eovaldi on a roll
Nathan Eovaldi continues to be underrated despite being Boston's best starting pitcher this season. Of late, the righty has really been on a roll. In his last eight starts, he has a 2.27 ERA, walking just eight and striking out 64 in 47 2/3 innings during that run. Though Eovaldi is 1-1 during that run, the Red Sox have won seven of those eight starts.

Sept. 18: Red Sox 9, Orioles 3 -- Houck dominates out of 'pen
Righty Tanner Houck's move to the bullpen for the final stretch of the season could mean big things for the Red Sox. The rookie fired 2 2/3 shutout innings and got the win -- his first of the season. In his three relief outings, Houck hasn't allowed an earned run over 6 2/3 innings, and he has one walk and eight strikeouts.

Sept. 17: Red Sox 7, Orioles 1 -- Pitching leads playoff push
As the Red Sox make their final push to make the playoffs, the pitching staff is trending in the right direction. Over the last eight games, Boston has a 1.88 ERA, allowing three earned runs or fewer in each contest -- the team's longest such streak of the season. The bullpen has allowed two earned runs in 30 1/3 innings over the last seven games, including one earned run in the last 24 innings.

Sept. 15: Red Sox 9, Mariners 4 -- Seattle streak snapped
By taking two of three games in Seattle, that marks the first time since July 8-11, 2013, that the Red Sox have won a series against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. Coming into the road series, Boston was 0-3-3 in its last six meetings in the Mariners' home ballpark.

Sept. 14: Red Sox 8, Mariners 4 – Relievers on a roll
Relievers Darwinzon Hernandez, Adam Ottavino, Michael Feliz, Hirokazu Sawamura and Austin Davis combined for no earned runs in four innings pitched. Red Sox relief pitchers have allowed only two earned runs in their past 21 2/3 innings (0.83 ERA).

Sept. 13: Mariners 5, Red Sox 4 -- September struggles
The Red Sox dropped to 6-6 in September and are 11-11 in their last 22 games. Following a four-game win streak, Boston is 2-6 in its last eight games.

Sept 12: White Sox 2, Red Sox 1 -- Pitching coming through
Though the Red Sox are 2-2 in their past four games, their pitching has been stellar. Over that span, Boston has allowed only eight earned runs in 36 innings, good for a 2.00 ERA. If the Sox continue to pitch well, they should be in good position to finish strong, particularly if they can shore up their defense -- which made another costly error on Sunday -- over the final three weeks.

Sept. 11: Red Sox 9, White Sox 8 (10 innings) -- Road warriors in extras
While having the last at-bat would seem advantageous in extra-inning games, the Red Sox have been much better on the road this season in games that go beyond nine innings. With the thrilling win over Chicago, Boston is 7-1 in extra innings on the road. At Fenway, the Sox are 3-4 in extras.

Sept. 10: White Sox 4, Red Sox 3 -- Dalbec unexpected triple threat
Though Bobby Dalbec's triple was rather fortuitous -- it had an expected batting average of .070 -- it was his fifth three-bagger of the season, the most he's ever had at any pro level. The power-hitting Dalbec is far from a prototypcial triples hitter. Yet Dalbec is somehow tied for third in the American League in that category. Asked if he was aware of that, Dalbec said,"No, I'm not a triples counter."

Sept. 8: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 -- Eovaldi lights out at Fenway
They say Fenway Park is a tough place to pitch, but Nathan Eovaldi isn't buying into that. In his last eight starts at home, the hard-throwing righty is 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA. The Red Sox are 7-1 in those games. Overall, Eovaldi is 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP in his last six starts (home or road) in a stretch that started on Aug. 11.

Sept. 7: Rays 12, Red Sox 7 -- Dalbec homers twice ... off the bench
Bobby Dalbec is so hot at the plate that he managed to go deep twice on Tuesday night despite not entering the game until the eighth inning. Dalbec became the first Red Sox player since Mike Lowell on Aug. 11, 2009, to homer twice in a game he didn't start. The rookie extended his on-base streak to 12 games, during which he is slashing .395/.477/.947 with three doubles, six homers, 17 RBIs and six walks. The walks are significant when you consider Dalbec walked just 12 times in his first 278 plate appearances this season.

Sept. 6: Rays 11, Red Sox 10 (10 inn.) -- Front 3 getting it done
Though this was a bit of a wobbly start for Chris Sale, the front three in the rotation have been a huge bright spot for the Red Sox in recent weeks. Since Aug. 10, Sale, Nathan Eovaldi and Eduardo Rodriguez are a combined 7-2 with a 2.69 ERA. After a tough loss, the Sox have Rodriguez and Eovaldi going in the final two games of this three-game series against the Rays.

Sept. 5: Indians 11, Red Sox 5 -- Kutter's MLB debut
Right-hander Kutter Crawford made his Major League debut on Sunday, striking out Bradley Zimmer swinging on a 96 mph sinker to end the first inning with his first big league K.

Sept. 4: Red Sox 4, Indians 3 -- Valdez a multi-inning specialist
Garrett Whitlock isn't the only Boston reliever who has been prolific when asked to go more than one inning this season. Righty Phillips Valdez fired two perfect innings to set up a thrilling victory on Saturday. In the eight appearances in which Valdez has pitched two innings or more this season, he hasn't allowed an earned run.

Sept. 3: Red Sox 8, Indians 5 -- Schwarber's 8th leadoff HR
Kyle Schwarber hit his Major League-leading eighth leadoff homer this season, and his first with Boston. The previous leadoff homers came prior to the Trade Deadline while Schwarber was with the Nationals, before he was acquired by the Red Sox. The homer was also his 29th this year.

Sept. 2: Red Sox 4, Rays 0 -- Renfroe stays hot
Red Sox right fielder Hunter Renfroe missed five games while mourning the loss of his father, Todd. Renfroe has managed to keep swinging a hot bat since returning on Tuesday. He went 2-for-5 in the finale of a four-game set with the Rays and he has produced multiple hits in four of his last five games. In his last 16 games, Renfroe is hitting .323 with 18 RBIs. Renfroe has been exactly what the Red Sox hoped he would be against lefties this season, sporting a slash line of .284/.382/.534.

Sept. 1: Red Sox 3, Rays 2 -- Sale right at home
Perhaps it isn't surprising that Lakeland, Fla., native Chris Sale loves pitching at Tropicana Field. The lefty had another strong outing in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, holding the Rays to two runs over six innings. In 12 appearances (11 starts) at Tropicana Field, Sale has a 2.09 ERA.
