SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is the greatest hitter of all time, under certain conditions.
Belt's been the best as long as he's performing in March at Salt River Fields, as his efforts in the Giants' 10-6 exhibition loss Wednesday to the D-backs demonstrated.
Belt went 3-for-3 with two homers and a double, hiking his overall spring batting average to .448 and his OPS to 1.504. Impressive as those figures are, they pale beside Belt's Salt River output.

Comcast Bay Area reported that in the past four Cactus League seasons, Belt has hit .714 (20-for-28) with seven home runs, three doubles, a triple and 15 RBIs at the D-backs spring home. After he left the game, Belt prompted laughter in the Giants' clubhouse by asking nobody in particular, "Can we play any regular-season games here?"
Careful not to anger the baseball gods, Belt maintained his humility.
"I think it's important to keep in mind that this is spring," he said. "While I'm trying to feel good -- and I feel good right now -- a lot of stuff changes during the season. For me, if I can keep my approach consistent ... hopefully I will stay consistent."
