ST PETERSBURG -- No member of the Rays has made the most of his opportunities more than outfielder Brandon Guyer so far -- even though those opportunities have been hard to come by.
Entering this weekend's series against the White Sox, the Rays' outfielder only had seven at-bats in the team's first nine games. Normally seeing action when a southpaw is on the mound, Guyer was idle due to the lack of left-handers so far.

"It's good to see the lefties, because it's been awhile since I've seen lefties, let alone any pitcher," Guyer said. "So the more reps I can get the better."
The reps certainly paid off for Guyer, who over the weekend reached base in six straight plate appearances.
His solo home run in the Ray's 7-2 win over Chicago on Saturday single-handedly broke the team's 21-inning scoreless streak and set the tone for an offensive eruption. Then for good measure in Sunday's 3-2 Rays' win, Guyer collected four hits in a game for the third time in his career.

"Brando, he's such a huge part of our lineup," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "He was last year, we know he will be this year. [It's] probably taken a lot of patience on his end."
Patience has been an important attribute for the fourth-year Major Leaguer, as he has learned to approach the game by being ready when called upon. The key for Guyer is having the right mindset.
"If you go out there thinking, you're ready, you've been there before, you've done this," Guyer said. "It's [still] not easy. It's a tough game, but [that mindset] should make it a little easier."
Cash says Guyer will get more opportunities against righties moving forward, but the manager applauds how his outfielder has handled being in and out of the lineup.
"Guyer, you could argue is one of our best teammates," Cash said. "I think everybody to a man would say that."
"Means a lot," Guyer said of Cash's comments. "I try to come to the ballpark positive whether I'm in or out of the lineup. Hopefully guys can see that.
"[It] means a lot especially because we won. If we didn't win it wouldn't be as good. The fact that we got the 'W' makes it that much better"
