Kemp (hamstring), Braves being cautious

June 24th, 2017

ATLANTA -- Matt Kemp's lingering hamstring issues have caused the Braves to take a cautious approach with him moving forward to prevent further injury.
Kemp wasn't in Saturday's lineup against the Brewers, marking the second straight game he missed since leaving Thursday's with left hamstring tightness. Kemp said the injury is not serious and that he felt good during his treatments. He will be available off the bench to pinch-hit as needed.
started in place of Kemp in left field on Saturday.
"Once you do your hamstring, at some point, it can get irritating," Kemp said. "I am just trying to figure out a way to make it heal and be able to play at the same time."
This marks the third time this season that Kemp has been kept out of game action with a hamstring injury. He went on the disabled list in April for his right hamstring and missed two games (June 16-17) dealing with his left hamstring.
The Braves could potentially hold him out of the lineup until Tuesday against the Padres. The reasoning would be to give him two extra days of rest with a matinee on Sunday and an off-day on Monday.
"[Hamstring injuries] don't always go away as there is always something there," Kemp said. "I don't want to make it worse as hamstrings are tricky."

Kemp has played well this season and strengthened his 2017 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard bid with a walk-off home run in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the Giants. Ranked sixth in the latest All-Star fan vote tally, he is hitting .320 with 12 homers and 35 RBIs this season.
Kemp's return to the lineup could coincide with a return to San Diego for the first time since he was traded on June 30, 2016, to the Braves. The team has gone 67-54 in 121 games with Kemp in the fold.
