Doubleheader today after rainout Friday

April 20th, 2019

CLEVELAND -- Rain fell on the first day of a Braves road trip that doubles as a six-game tour of Ohio, delaying Touki Toussaint’s first start of the season.

Inclement weather led to the postponement of Friday’s opener of a three-game series with the Indians at Progressive Field on Friday. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The postponement does not dramatically impact the Braves’ pitching plans. Toussaint and Julio Teheran will still pitch the first two games of the series with the Tribe, except now it will be Teheran opposite Corey Kluber in the first game and Toussaint opposite Trevor Bauer in the nightcap.

Max Fried is scheduled to start Sunday’s 7 p.m. ET series finale on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, opposite Shane Bieber.

Toussaint earned this starting opportunity when he limited the Mets to one unearned run after relieving Sean Newcomb in the second inning of last Saturday’s game. He pitched effectively in five starts last year, but was with Triple-A Gwinnett until being called up last weekend.
