Brewers, Phillies celebrate Father's Day

June 17th, 2018

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers and Phillies were accented in baby blue for Father's Day on Sunday as part of Major League Baseball's effort to raise awareness and funds for the fight against prostate cancer.
That effort included the annual Prostate Cancer Foundation "Home Run Challenge," which has given fans the chance to make a one-time monetary donation or pledge for every home run hit by their favorite clubs in a "Team vs. Team" competition. As of Friday, more than $1.85 million had been pledged for 2018, and every dollar goes to PCF to fund critical research to defeat prostate cancer. Since its inception, the initiative has raised nearly $50 million.

The players swinging for the fences wore blue caps, wristbands, socks, ribbons and other accessories, including Brewers catcher 's customized chest protector. It said "Dad," for Omar Pina, who was watching the game at home in Venezuela.

MLB will again donate all royalty payments from the sales of specialty caps and apparel to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer.

Overall, the PCF has raised more than $745 million for prostate cancer research to date, and provided funding to more than 2,000 research programs at nearly 200 cancer centers and universities, resulting in 15 FDA-approved drugs available for prostate cancer treatment.
One in nine men are predicted to be diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. For more information, please visit PCF.org.
