PITTSBURGH -- Brewers right-hander Zach Davies had a rough start in his first game after being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs, as the Brewers fell to the Pirates, 9-3, on Sunday at PNC Park.
"It was frustrating," Davies said. "But that's baseball, balls are going to find holes, sometimes you're going to get guys that are making diving stops that eliminate those kinds of hits. It can go either way."
Davies couldn't get out the third inning and was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.
The Brewers were unable to make some plays behind him that contributed to the big inning. There was a catch that could have been made in center field, an error and Davies' own late throw to first base that resulted in a base hit on a bunt by Brewers starter Juan Nicasio.
"It will happen," Davies said. "You've got to just keep making pitches and it just kind of kept snowballing, balls finding holes. It was tough, but there is always a new day."
