MIAMI -- Marlins rookie Brian Anderson has shown plenty of versatility, shifting from third base early in the year to right field for a majority of the season.
Down the stretch, the Marlins are planning on giving their rookie standout some more stability. Even with Martin Prado getting closer to coming off the 10-day disabled list, the organization intends to have Anderson remain at third base.
"As long as Andy is healthy, I think we're pretty flushed with outfielders right now with guys coming back," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "So I want to leave Andy [at third]. We've kind of gotten to the point where we know he can play right field."

Prado has been on the DL since Aug. 13 with a left quad strain. During Thursday's batting practice, the veteran was taking grounders at first.
Prado has been Miami's primary third baseman the past few seasons. But with the organization looking to infuse more young players into the lineup, it asked Prado if he was willing to play first.
"We've talked with him about still playing third but also getting him at first base," Mattingly said of Prado. "Getting him comfortable. He's played there a few years back. We're going to give him some opportunity there."
Prado last played first base in 2012, appearing at the position in four games with the Braves. Over his 13-year career, he has seen action in 56 games at first.
The 34-year-old veteran is getting closer to coming off the DL, with a likely return in September when rosters expand.

Derek Dietrich has been playing regularly at first base since the Marlins dealt Justin Bour to the Phillies on Aug. 10. Dietrich's status remains unclear, however, because he could still be traded to a postseason contender prior to the Aug. 31 waiver Trade Deadline.
Anderson, one of the core young players on the Marlins, made his 38th start of the season at third base in Thursday's series opener against the Braves. He also has played 91 games in right field.
"When we were moving Andy out there, we were up in the air because he hadn't really played there," Mattingly said of right field. "But once he was out there, it looked like this guy had been out there his whole life. So we were impressed with that, with him."

The organization's commitment to Anderson at third base also is impacted by the fact Lewis Brinson (right hip) is expected to come off the DL when rosters expand in September.
Once Brinson is back, the Marlins likely will go with three rookies in the outfield. Magneuris Sierra can play all three outfield spots, with Austin Dean in left. Rafael Ortega and Isaac Galloway also are in the mix.
"We need to keep giving [Anderson] experience at third," Mattingly said. "He came up as a third baseman and everybody in the organization thought that he was the third baseman of the future. The way he profiles, he's going to continue to get stronger over time. He's going to hit with more power. He's already shown he has a good feel for him."

As part of Players' Weekend, which begins on Friday, the Marlins will be offering a special ticket giveaway for Sunday's series finale with the Braves at Marlins Park. For the 1:10 p.m. ET game, two complimentary tickets will be available to fans 18 years and younger who are wearing their youth baseball or softball uniforms.
