NEW YORK -- Even on a night when the Astros lost by 10 runs, Carlos Correa stood out.
The Astros' shortstop went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs for his third career multihomer game Wednesday and became the first Astros player in history to hit three homers in the team's first two games of a season. The Astros lost to the Yankees, 16-6, despite Correa's two homers and a grand slam from George Springer.
"He's an impact player," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said of Correa. "He kicked off the game very well. To hit the ball as far as he's hitting in this cold weather. … I know the score of the game and there was a little bit of offense. It wasn't a good night to hit, and he sort of doesn't care. He continues to put up good at-bats. He's in the heart and center of our lineup for a reason."
Correa homered to left field off Yankees starter Michael Pineda in the first inning before cranking a missile off the batter's eye in center in the fifth. Correa's second homer had an exit velocity of 113.6 mph and a projected home run distance of 462 feet, according to Statcast™. He also had two singles before striking out in his final at-bat.

"I think I hit a curveball, hanging curveball at 2-0," Correa said of the first homer. "The second one, I hit it pretty far."
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Correa is the youngest player with two homers and four hits in a game as a visitor against the Yankees since 1923, the year the original Yankee Stadium opened. He's the youngest visiting player to hit two homers in the Bronx since Manny Ramirez in 1993, and he's the second-youngest player in team history to record four hits and two homers in the same game (Rusty Staub did it in 1964 at 20 years old).
"I'm seeing the ball very well and feeling good, and hopefully I can keep doing that and find a way to help my team win ballgames," he said.
Two games into the season, Correa is 5-for-9 with 14 total bases, three homers and four RBIs. The only other Astros player with more than two hits so far is rookie Tyler White, who has three hits on the season after going 2-for-4 on Wednesday.
