d'Arnaud day to day after fouling ball off knee

SAN FRANCISCO -- With the Giants' infield depth already thin -- as both and are sidelined with injuries -- San Francisco dodged another major setback when second baseman avoided serious injury after fouling a ball off his left knee in the fourth inning of Tuesday afternoon's 2-1 loss to the Astros.
d'Arnaud is considered day to day with a left knee contusion, and manager Bruce Bochy expects him to be fine after Wednesday's scheduled off-day.
The foul, on an 0-1 offering by Houston's , appeared to strike the 31-year-old just below his left kneecap. After being examined by the training staff, d'Arnaud appeared to be able to put weight on the leg and run on it, but he was removed from the game following a lengthy discussion.
