OAKLAND -- The Rays rounded out their radio broadcast team on Thursday by announcing the hiring of Chris Adams-Wall.
Adams-Wall, who spent more than seven years with the Rays’ Double-A Montgomery affiliate, will serve as the host of Tampa Bay’s pre- and postgame shows on the Rays Radio Network. He is set to begin broadcasting on June 22, when the Rays begin a four-game series against the Royals at Tropicana Field.
In addition to his pre- and postgame duties, Adams-Wall will host the This Week in Rays Baseball program during the regular season and contribute to the club’s other digital programming all year.
“For several years now, the Tampa Bay Rays organization has been the gold standard in Major League Baseball, and one that I have hoped to work for ever since becoming the voice of the Montgomery Biscuits in 2016,” Adams-Wall said in a statement. “I can’t express how honored, humbled and thrilled I am to have the opportunity to join the Rays as the new pre- and postgame broadcaster, to be able to work alongside the rest of the organization and to continue to keep fans across the globe connected with their spectacular team.”
Adams-Wall is filling the role previously held by Neil Solondz, who joined Andy Freed in the radio booth in March following the tragic passing of longtime Rays radio voice Dave Wills. While the Rays conducted an extensive search and tried out three finalists at the ballpark, Solondz had been handling many pre- and postgame responsibilities while calling games during the first 2 1/2 months of the season.
Adams-Wall worked as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Montgomery Biscuits, giving him plenty of familiarity with Tampa Bay’s system and the players who have been through there. He also previously served as a sports anchor and reporter for the Alabama News Network, a play-by-play broadcaster for the Northeast Sports Network and Alabama State football, a writer for ESPN and a production assistant for FOX Sports’ NFL and college football broadcasts.
“With his talents and knowledge of the Rays organization, Chris will make for a seamless transition to our broadcast team,” Freed said in a statement. “Fans will easily connect with his friendly demeanor, his love of baseball and his obvious passion for all things Rays. We welcome him with open arms and look forward to him getting started.”
