Indians top two prospects shine for RubberDucks

April 12th, 2016

Clint Frazier and Bradley Zimmer entered the home run column Monday as the Akron RubberDucks slugged their way to a 9-1 win over Altoona.
Zimmer, the Indians' top-ranked prospect and No. 25 on the Top 100, finished 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs, his first and second of the 2016 season, and three RBIs.

Hitting third for the RubberDucks, Zimmer grounded out to second base in his first at-bat before drawing back-to-back walks in the third and fourth innings, respectively -- the latter accounting for his third RBI -- and then leaving the yard in sixth and ninth. The 23-year-old outfielder, who hit just .219 in 49 games for Akron during the second half of the 2015 season, also stole his first base of the year in the contest.

Frazier's home run, a solo shot to left-center field in the top of the third inning, was his first of the season and first at the Double-A level, and he also scored two of Akron's nine runs. The Tribe's No. 2 prospect (No. 26 overall) has hit safely in four straight games to begin 2016 after he posted a .285/.377/.465 batting line and 16 home runs at Class A Advanced Lynchburg in '15.

RubberDucks' catcher Jeremy Lucas also had a big day at the plate, hitting a two-run home run in the second inning and adding a solo shot in the ninth, and No. 14 prospect Yandy Diaz was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks.
No. 10 prospect Rob Kaminsky struggled with his control but was good enough to pick up the win in his first Double-A start, throwing five scoreless innings against the Curve. The left-hander walked three, struck out one and found the strike zone with just 43 of his 81 pitches, but limited the damage by yielding only one hit and generating 10 groundball outs.
