D-backs activate Iannetta, option Bracho

SAN DIEGO -- The D-backs activated catcher Chris Iannetta from the 7-day concussion list Saturday and optioned right-hander to Triple-A Reno.

Iannetta, who was hit in the face by a 93 mph fastball May 12, was not in the starting lineup against the Padres.

"Talk about toughness; that's exactly what he's built on," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I thought today would be a good day to run through a pregame knowing that he's active, maybe getting an at-bat off the bench, and then maybe have him start [Sunday]."

Bracho had a 19.29 ERA in three relief appearances spread out over two different stints with the D-backs.

Checking them out

D-backs GM Mike Hazen is headed to the Southeastern Conference Tournament this week to get a look at some players the D-backs might take with their first round selection in next month's Draft.

The D-backs have the No. 7 overall pick and Hazen will spend the time between now and the Draft checking out a dozen or so players.

"I think where we're picking at seven, it gives me an opportunity to probably see the guy that we'll end up taking," Hazen said. "But not definite. If we were picking 20th, I probably wouldn't have that opportunity, because you'll probably have to go see 30, really, to get to 20, to really cover all your bases for any scenarios that might come up. We're at seven, so for me to be able to see 10-15 guys that should cover most of them."

Hazen made it clear that scouting director Deric Ladnier will be the one making the final decision about whom to pick.

"I try to stay out of the way," Hazen said. "I'm a question-asker and that's about it. I think if you haven't seen a lot of players, it's hard to see a player and say, 'This is the guy' or 'That's the guy.' I don't think I can do that. But it's good to be able to ask questions."

The road back

Outfielder , who dislocated the ring finger of his left hand while diving into home plate this spring, will join Triple-A Reno on Monday to begin a rehabilitation assignment.
