SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Every Sunday this season, Chase Field will belong to the dogs. Well, at least one section of the ballpark will.
The D-backs have partnered with PetSmart to create the PetSmart Patio, PetSmart Park and the Dog Days of Summer program where fans can bring dogs to all 13 Sunday home games.
"Bark at the Park has always been a popular event at Chase Field, and now we are thrilled to offer fans the opportunity to bring their dogs to our games every Sunday to a new destination designed specifically for them," D-backs team president/CEO Derrick Hall said. "For many households, a pet is an extension of their families and the D-backs are excited to partner with PetSmart to provide a family-friendly atmosphere for all family members, including our canine friends."
That the D-backs became the first team to offer a season-long dog-friendly section should come as no surprise to those who know D-backs chief baseball officer Tony La Russa.
The Hall of Fame manager has long been an advocate for animals, starting the Animal Rescue Foundation in 1991 in Walnut Creek, Calif.

The PetSmart Patio will be located along the main concourse behind the left-center-field wall and feature multi-level seating. During each of the 13 Dog Days of Summer, fans can purchase concessions such as dog-friendly ice cream with toppings like kibble and other pet treats. As part of the ticket package, which includes a semi-private space for four people and one dog, fans will also receive a PetSmart "Doggie Bag" with free items from PetSmart.
Behind the patio, there will be a PetSmart Park -- an indoor/outdoor park with a baseball diamond and grassy outfield for dogs to explore, play or relieve themselves.
